Politically charged stuff, some moving passages...especially the Paul Robeson riot sequence.

Only halfway through but Doctorow's portrayal of a Jewish family governed by a father's passion and a mother's cool rationale is clearly a metaphor for the zeitgeist of the 60s. That vision through is overshadowed by the spectre of MCarthyism which results in the parents arrest for un-American activities

Excellent novel - i love how he kept switching points of view. Very authentic voice - at times I had to remind myself that it was fiction it felt like he had truly gone through the experienced it.

This is a marvelous work of postmodern fiction. And Christine, the errors throughout are meant to be there; they are obvious literary devices.

This is one of my favorite books. People suck. And are incredibly beautiful in just how much they suck. This book does a fab job of pointing that out by pointing an almost unbearable light on the whole thing.

this book is FUCKING TERRIBLE. not only is every character completely unsympathetic and the storyline untenable, there are grammatical and typographical errors throughout. total waste of time but Zadie Smith recommends it so whatever.
