Real, starkly, thrilling - An evil shocker, but a great book if you like hard stuff. Probably the most sinister book I've ever read.

I was really expecting a ghost story or a supernatural thriller based on testimonials and the summary. I was very disappointed. While child abuse is certainly the most horrific topic I can imagine, it was hard to read. I guess Ketchum does a good job of writing about it because it got me very angry, but I was looking for a more tongue and cheek view of horror, much like a Bentley Little.

More of a morality play than straight-up horror, Ketchum is so skilled in his writing that you will find yourself drawn into the characters and the appalling scenario that unfolds. Set in the 50s, it follows a group of neighborhood children through a series of events that are actually based upon a true crime. It will make you angry and sad, leave you...more

I feel so sad for the girl in the book. Can't stop thinking her situation after finished the book. And very shocking how adult could affect kids like that.
