I loved the book from the beginning. The whole book is written in Spenserian stanza (named after the author himself). The whole book is a poem and almost melodic as you read it out loud. takes some freakish willpower to start, but spenser is really quite the guy, and the fairie queene is just brimming with all sorts of tangents and thoughts. intricate, beautiful, absurd, and even wry and pessimistic at times - great book.
