Deep dark forests and elves and castles and butter tea. Fantasy, deep, dark, unapologetic fantasy!!!

This book is dense, but well worth the read for any fantasy fans. Tad Williams creates a world so in depth that it is surpassed in scope only by Tolkien.

This begins an outstanding fantasy series. While it is in some ways tolkeinesque, it does not feel like the minor rehashing of tolkein's plot that comprises some other fantasy series. It also incorporates some of the feel of the Arthurian legends, perhaps a bit more obviously.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tad Williams' vivid descriptions of otherworldly places and characters. Yes, it is lengthy, but beautifully written!

This is the first book in one of my all time favorite trilogies. I loved this more than Lord of the Rings!

If you're not into well-written, descriptive passages in which nothing seems to happen, the first hundred pages will be tough. Get through them, though, and you will find that it was worth the effort! This is some of the best fantasy fiction on the market.
