I'm really disappointed with Bamford on this one. While I loved "The Puzzle Palace" and "Body of Secrets", Bamford really let me down with "A Pretext for War". My recommendation for Bamford is, stick to what you know (the NSA) and brush up on your CIA history before ever attempting another book of this nature. My recommendation for the reader is... do yourself a favor and rip the first half of the book off and discard it in the nearest dung heap. The parroting of the "official version" of 9-11 is absolutely nauseating... then go ahead and read the second half which describes what most of us already know... how the Bush administration used 9-11 as an excuse to go after Saddam and a war with Iraq despite no justification at all.... deliberately lying, manipulating and fabricating intel in an attempt to justify an unjust war.   hide

very good book, really gives a sense of all the many intelligence failures the US had leading up to 9/11
