If you're really, really, really, really into Flaubert, this'll probably get more than three stars from you. If not... the first third of the book is pretty great.

I believe I'm slightly in love with the intelligent and urbane Mr. Barnes. Like all his essays, the ones in his book are amusing and thought-provoking. Highly recommended!!

Started getting bored a little past the middle. But it's been a long time since I've had to refer to a dictionary as much as with this book. Some examples: abnegation, tramontane, crepuscular, pluvoise, cynosure. I mean - wtf! I've never even heard of these words before.
