I'm a great fan of the Whodunnit. Rendell does Whydunnits. Puzzling human behavior is so... puzzling, yet very real in her hands. Not deep, but these books are for entertainment.

I was absolutely hooked from the start. Rendell creates a wonderful array of weird and wonderful characters, especially Araminta Knox. I loved the descriptions of Kensal Green and the surrounding areas, brought back memories of my long journey to work on the No. 18 bus (which even gets a mention in the novel). Can't wait to read more Rendell.
