Elegant and fascinating prose and stories. I got the impression that these stories were highly autobiographical. The narrator came across as being arrogant, snobbish and with a peculiar sex-life. But somehow she seemed to be aware of this without actually coming out and stating this. In fact events were presented but any inferences to meanings or motives were only obliquely given so that everything had a mystery about it. The author seemed to have had a very strange relationship with men, and her encounters to me seemed more like rape than anything else although she professes to have enjoyed them. So although that aspect of her life left a bad taste in my mouth, I found the style of the writing and the bizarre nature of the narrators way of life peculiarly fascinating.   hide
