Only complaint is that I wish it were longer. Some might have a tougher time with this one if "fictionalization" bothers them. Though she holds true to the doctrine, no question, the humanness of Christ is described with such kindness, truth, and insight. I wait anxiously for her next volume.

The second in Anne Rice's thoughtful imaginings of the life of Jesus as untold by scripture, this one covers several months in Christ's 30th year, from his baptism by his cousin John to his first miracle at the wedding feast in Cana. Shorter, and not as imaginative, perhaps, as the earlier "Out of Egypt." Apparently, Ms. Rice has promised at least one more in the series. (Given to...more

I was sceptical if an author that specialized in horror could do jsutice to the greatest story ever told -- but she did! it makes you stop and think jsut how HUMAN Jesus was, makes hyou imagine what life might have been like for Jesus growing up. VERY well done.

I really did like this book, but I had a few random issues. I had hoped that Anne Rice would pick up exactly where she left out. What I was really hoping for was that this edition continued filling in fictional pieces of Jesus' childhood. I think I would have even been satisfied if she would have began it in the teenage years or very early adulthood. Instead, the book begins with Jesus at...more

Excellent book. I kept waiting for a theological/historical slip-up, but she as right on. Rice did an excellent job of humanizing Jesus by taking on the unenviable task of writing from Jesus' first-person view-point. She handled his emotions well, as well as His temptations. Highly recommended.

I think this book is even better than Out of Egypt, and is really an incredible write by Ms. Anne Rice. In "The Road to Cana" we get an inside view of a Divinely gifted man who is at war against his Divine Path and the normal instincts of the flesh. We get the sense that the miracles He wrought, His baptism by John the Baptist, and his realigning his loved one, Avigail, to someone who...more

Beautifully written. I have read both of Anne Rice's Christ The Lord books, and I still have a hard time believing that the reverent prose in these two books came from the same author that gave us Interview With the Vampire and the VERY adult Sleeping Beauty series (under the penname of A.N. Roquelaure. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

The story of Christ from the perspective of His own thoughts. I enjoyed this book because it revealed Christ as so human and yet so focused on His mission as God. It reveals very well exactly the kinds of choices He had to make for our sake. Another fascinating part of the book is the author.

Even a hardcore atheist would have to admit that this book is superbly written. Anne Rice humanizes Jesus like no other author has ever been able to do. It's like throwing away all of the stories that have been shoved down our throats and reading Jesus' own journal. The one thing that Rice makes clear in her writing is that Jesus was a man, with the same desires, pains and struggles as...more
