Excellent review of how the New Deal policies actually hurt recovery. Arranged by topic instead of chronological order. Read this and the parallels of what is happing today is striking, even to the appointment of the CEO of General Electric to an advisory board!
Excellent book! While not the typical pro-FDR spin on history, this book has no malice towards the decisions FDR made.The big question answered throughout is how so many people, smart, respected, and educated people, could make such flawed choices and drive the country deeper into the depression. I really suggest everyone read this one!
This is a good book for everyone. It gives a perspective that you don't see often in history books about FDR. Since FDR was a great president, it's easy to write a pro-FDR history book but this book points out the flaws in FDR's policies and how the New Deal did not actually end the Great Depression. I am a fan of FDR but he was not perfect, nor were all his programs perfect. I highly recommend...more
