I love this book. I don't want to blather about why you should read it. Just do.

It's important to remember this is a series of short stories. It is interesting to see how one woman can effect the lives of others.

I started this book as I was waiting to hear the author speak at the Festival of Faith and Writing. She gave a wonderful speech and then I got to meet her for a few moments. I didn't tell her that I'd written a paper about Abide with me that didn't get accepted. This book isn't for me what that one was, since it's not primarily about faith, but it's still...more

didn't like the lack of continuity of all the different stories.

Rather depressing due to the not-so-likeable aging Maine woman (Olive) and semi-ignorant attitudes of the Maine "hick" characters in her life...but so well written I couldn't stop reading it. I'm from Maine and I've known people like this!...Stubborn, narrow-minded, set in their ways...to the extreme!

Not my favorite. Partially because it took me half the book to figure out to read it as a series of short stories. I DID enjoy the style of writing and Strout's ability to connect me to the every day normal characters/struggles, but I don't think it will be a book I remember.

Well written - character development through many lenses. This was at times hard to read as I didn't find Olive very easy to like, let alone love. Such a real character. Not a feel good book, but you definitely feel ... anger, sadness, amusement, disgust, annoyed, softness ...

Life and the secrets we all have. I liked this book because it is about people who could be people I know (including myself).
