I just want to start off by say this: Peter Benchley is an amazing writer. His writing captures the reader. I loved Captain Quint and Cheif Brody. I loved Matt hooper in the movie but hated him the book. His character was sleezy and two-faced, to me at least. Sharks are very intresting to me and it fasianted me that usually, you can explain why a creature, such as a shark in this case, does the things it does. But This 25ft sark seems almost unstoppable. In conclusion, I fully recomend for people who want to improve their writng to read this book.   hide

this book was terrible!!! i don't have any clue how Spielberg was able to turn this book into what i consider the best and scariest movie of all time. it makes me appreciate the movies greatness and Spielberg's genius even more because it turned something out of nothing. the book read like a crappy soap opera with a shark thrown in. it was garbage!

I must admit that this book is long, and it took me a length to read it, but boy was i hooke :D. Rather different to the film, but its sooo awesome, deffo worth a pick up:)

Cult-classic, though personally I think I like the movie better although the book is far more graphic it also has exessive profanity and an unecessary affair subplot I was happy they'd removed for the film. Overall, and excellent novel.

I like the movie better, but the book is still worth reading. Could have done without the vulgar language, but I guess it shows who the characters are.

Fine book that inspired one of America's greatest films. The book is broken into three parts. The first is a good thriller. The second is ovely melodramatic lust story. And the third part was a fantastic adventure followin three men trying to bring down the shark. The very end is a it to Moby Dick for me, but a very solid summer read!

I had read it before so I re-read it. Much different than the movie, but a good story :)

Read this in 1979...just as intense as the movie.

Before the movie came along, my Dad read this book and then hid it away in a box in the attic. Years later, having seen the film and all the sequels, i found the book in the attic and read it. The film is one of my all time favourites. the book blows it out of the water. I loved it.
