Lovely, lovely writing! Interesting, yet quite disturbing read. I had heard of these strange brothers and even seen a play a few years ago, so an intriguing topic. But had never read Doctorow. I will do so again definitely! The grace of the ending just blew me away!

Fascinating. Inspired by a true event but author invents own story of fiction.

Slow, and stranger and stranger...which I think was the point. The lives of the brothers are reflected in the writing. We had a great book discussion about this book although we really didn't like the characters in the book. The hoarding was the main topic of discussion.

E.L. Doctorow is wonderful. An amazing writer. He makes me fall in love with writing all over again. This novel is really insightful and wonderful as it made me realize there is this one life that we have and it needs to be lived. Doctorow describes this a reverse travel narrative as history, cultural movements , and philosophies are embodied and move through the home of two eccentrics. Brilliant! Such compelling characters, mad but extremely engaging and sympathetic. A beautifully written little book.

This book is loosely based on New York City's infamous Collyer brothers who I knew nothing about prior to reading this book. It was an easy and enjoyable read. The ending was unsettling. Immediately after finishing this book I had to research the real lives of these brothers to try and figure out what was real and what was fiction. I wish I knew the details of their real lives.

An interesting non-fiction novel. I wonder how much is true. The writing style makes the read worthwhile.
