Fannie Flagg is a really good storyteller. Dreams wind through this novel in interesting and unpredictable ways. Most of the characters in this story about an aging former Miss Alabama and her life in Birmingham are people I think I'd enjoy knowing.

Easy enough to read while under the influence of pain medication. : ) I have to admit, I love Fannie Flagg (yes, she of Match Game fame, but also author of Fried Green Tomatoes, book and screenplay). Her latest isn't quite as good as some of her earlier books (especially Daisy May and the Miracle Man) but still it's light, cute southern fiction, with funny, quirky characters.
