Furst specializes in writing about characters who live in Europe at the beginning, or during World War II. So there are no definitive happy endings -- they get out of a mess, but they are still stuck in a time period fraught with dangers, and terrors. Somehow, he captures the period really well. A great spy novel. Definitely not a James Bond story.

Quite good. Furst specializes in historical fiction spy novels, usually set in the time either just before or during WWII.

Furst writes a variation of the same book every time, but so what? He does it very well, and nobody else works in his particular niche. And he writes better than Eric Ambler ever did.
