A good book, but looked like one of those essays that you played with the margins, line spacing and font to make it long enough. Sam had recommended this book to me and it is only now that I was able to read it. I am glad that I did. They obviously had a special relationship and it was nice to read about it.
Calvin Trillin is a wonderful writer with a very sharp comedic sense that he manages to weave into his work. This book is a touching memoir of his life with his wife Alice. It is good reading for what it takes to build and maintain a solid marriage.
i've read this so many times i should know it by heart. it is a beautiful, simple, profound tribute to a woman i'd love to emulate in her passion, bravery and commitment. Also, the most moving portrait of a marriage i've ever encountered.
Brief but powerful. A textbook example of how pulling away from the central sadness in a story can actually foreground it and make it even more affecting.
