more Mary Doria Russell is by far one of the best writers today. Her fifth book looks at the life of John Henry "Doc" Holliday. Her meticulous research takes us beyond the mythical legend that has been created and brings the real man to life. A child during the Civil War, John Henry is a man living on borrowed time. Forced to leave Georgia because of Tuberculosis, he goes from promising dentist to gambler, ending up in Dodge City, Kansas, the most dangerous town in the West. Collecting an odd group of friends, including the Earp brothers, a Jesuit priest and his off and on companion Kate, Doc fights a losing battle for his health and dignity in the wilds of West Kansas.
Unfortunately it will be 2 years before we see her next book which will be Wyatt Earp's story.
