What a lovely story. With courting curmudgeons, wayward sons, race and real estate in a pretty & picturesque English village, this story is surprisingly romantic and fresh. A love story between an English retired major and a Pakistani shopkeeper and their trials w/their respective families.

this book started out as the story of an old curmudgeon who was being pushed around by his family but it ended up as a nice little story about how changing with the times can be a good thing, even for old English curmudgeons.

Just a really great book full of dry humour & loveable flawed characters.

Enjoyed very much. Reminded me of Jan Karon's Mitford series. The British humor was great!

Such a charming book! The love story was beautiful and old time-ish. The cultural differences of the characters were explored respectfully. The other, quirky characters painted a thorough image of the village of the setting. I LOVED IT!!!!
