This was my first read on Vietnam and was blown away by the contrast Bissel drew between the new and the old Vietnam.  It delves deep into the politics of the conflicts and the roots that started the whole mess in southeastern asia. An extremely interesting read.

The historical information in this book was staggering. And enlightening.  The disappointment was the juxtaposition of that with the relationship with his father - there was something really missing in that.
