Thus far, a constant intriguing chronicle of phsycological and sociological perspective of what was often considered female (quote-unquote) diseases ... like PMS etc. ..... quite funny yet perceptive ... look forward to finishing it.

This book is an eye-opening look at women in American society over the past 200 years or so. I'd recommend it for everyone--male or female. just started reading this a couple days ago. as a woman with a chronic illness and severe chronic pain, i thought this book would be really fascinating (it is!!!!), not just because of my feminism and my health situation either. check it out, this is a fantastic book!!!

read it in small doses. there's a lot to digest. the prose style can get a little academic at times, but the cultural phenomena that ehrenreich and english describe are fascinating.

This book gave a lot of historical background about medicine and psychology as it pertains to women in the past two centuries. I found this information quite fascinating. I was fairly disappointed at the brash assumptions made in the later chapters regarding Christians and stay at home wives/moms. I don't think it's quite fair to label feminism as strictly for liberal minded people or to pit...more
