I own a 2nd edition Portuguese version exemplar of the book (Edições Tinta da China): it's a pink book with an illustration of two unknown (at least i dont recognize them)manga characters.

I must say that I did enjoy reading "Wrong about Japan" (the Portuguese title being translated into "Japan is a weird place"...I dunno why they decided to entitle it that way but whatever) it was light reading and there were some interesting insights about japanese anime/manga and culture. I thought I would find some explicit explanations about japanese people but I got somewhat more confused about how they actually think. I have the feeling that Japan is a much more complex world than we actually think and that we (ocidential people) make too many assumptions based on cliché ideas. I still think about Japan as a mistery and I feel as though it's meant to be that way for any outsider...
It's a shame that Peter Carey's son didn't interact as much as I'd expected and I found it funny that almost all of Peter's thoughts were wrong.
I think that although it wasn't a story filled with action or suspense it was worth reading because of the author's experiences and thoughts and the whole set of experiences he describes.
I recommend it to any person who's interested in japanese culture, manga or anime.
