Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman

this is my first exposure to his short stories, though i'm a big fan of his fiction. overall this is a great read, though some stories are so weird that i don't care to spend the time to think about deeper meaning.

The first time I ever finished reading a compilation of short stories. And I enjoyed every bit of Murakami's words.

I've never read anything by a Japanese author before, and this guy is amazing. All his short stories are quirky, and creepily yet awesomely surreal. I hadn't read stories like that (that really make you think) in a long time, and this collection made me realize how much I miss seemingly impossible stories that can make complete sense.

As is the case with many collections of short stories it is rather difficult to get a homogenous selection. This one is no different, but Firefly and Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman are two that made this a collection worth reading.

I have a secret theory that Murakami is writing my life... OK, maybe it's a wish, not a theory...

Fascinating stuff - Murakami's a favorite of mine, and I have bought one of his novels before our family vacation each year to read while we were away. I started reading this at a Borders before the cell group I was facilitating met on Thursday evenings - the cell group ended and so did my serial, semi-surreal experiences of reading and overhearing conversations floating past from others in the store. Happy to see this in affordable paperback, I got it and am enjoying it thoroughly!   hide

I really enjoyed this set of short stories, but it does have a different feel than his novels.

This is the first of Murakami's books I've been less than impressed with..... though still a worthwhile read.
