more Lukianenko paints a vivid world, rich with vampires, shape-shifters, and magicians. The Others, a super-human race possessing powers to do good and evil, live amongst the humans, doing work for the Light or the Dark. This world presents the opportunity for Lukianenko to explore the meaning of human value, good and evil, and the price of love. Unfortunately, he falls far from the goal, giving the reader a shallow story. Many plot twists have obvious conclusions and the characters are just dragged along. Finally, perhaps due to translation, the text does not flow well. I would recommend this book for teenagers: the world of the Others is quite interesting, but the story itself is quite shallow and obvious.
