One of the most horrific books I have ever read! The authoress took everything that was simmering beneath the surface of their story conveyed its consummation repeatedly and in graphic details that read like a cheap bodice ripper. She seems to have completely forgotten that so much of the delightful tension in the original was caused by the genteel politeness and social constraints placed upon the passions of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Darcy are married in the book so a little consummation isn't completely unwarranted but this was ridiculous. I won't tell you about what little plot of substance their was (in case you plan to read it) but more than a couple people let their hair down, have personality changes and make their sexual urges the driving force in their life with no good explanation of how these changes came about.   hide

The takes readers through the courtship and the early marital ups and downs of the Darcy family. Mr and Mrs. Darcy just cannot seem to keep their hands off one another and spend many happy days at Pemberley. They go through many hardships as Elizabeth has miscarriage and stillbirths and questions her ability to ever give an heir to Pemberley. Colonel Fitzwilliam and Georgina are given their due and become quite well-beloved characters in their own right. Jane and Bingley have their own ups and downs- 4 children in 5 years and Bingley even has a child out of wedlock. The surprising thing is that the Bennet girls act totally out of their century and take little Alexander into the family fold. Oher family tragedies and excitements find their way- including an obsessed horsemen, Darcy's misstresses of the past and illegimate children find their way to the doors of Pemberely. In the end, Austen lovers will enjoy meeting Darcy and Elizabeth again.   hide

This book is a disgrace to Jane Austen and anything worth reading. period.

Contrived and irritating, like Berdoll was writing this with a thesaurus close at hand in an attempt to make the writing sound intelligent; she failed. Hijacked great, classic romantic characters in order to obsess about their genitalia. Reads like fanfiction (I have nothing against fanfiction, just don't ask me to pay for it). If you love the style of Jane Austen, stick to Pride and Prejudice...more
