This is one of Le Guin's "preachy" books, built to showcase her own philosophies. Brilliant in any case, but perhaps less of a gripping adventure than some of her other works.

The third book in the Earthsea Cycle follows the wizard Ged and young Prince Arren as they search for the reason behind the forgetting of magic. Magic users across the many islands of Earthsea are forgetting the words of magic and going mad, and it seems to be spreading. This is a great story of conquering your fears and overcoming what appears to be more than you can handle. It show the value...more

very intersting. This cycle seems to get more complex and worth reading as you go whereas most authors start of great and I am sick of them by the third book. This is the third book in the Earthsea cycle. Please see my review of the whole cycle under "A Wizard of Earthsea".

I loved this book because it reminded me how precious life is. The main theme of this book is that just as you can't have light without darkness, you can't have life without death...if someone were ever to find the way to immortality, they would cease to be able to truly live, since they could not die. Read it!

It's okay, but compared to the first two in the Earthsea trilogy, it's a bit of a let-down.
