more Meet Chet, a trained police dog who flunked out of K-9 school after he was distracted by a cat crossing one of the courses. Chet has the best job in the world as Bernie’s partner. Bernie is Chet’s human owner, and a private detective. Bernie smells like apples, bourbon, salt and pepper; it’s Chet’s second favorite smell in the world. I don’t usually like stories told from an animal’s perspective, it often comes across as too cutesy and the animal’s abilities are greatly exaggerated. But this one did a very good job of portraying a dog realistically. Chet’s viewpoint of the world around him is often humorous. The mystery itself wasn’t particularly absorbing and was a bit predictable, but it really didn’t matter much. This story belongs to Chet. Sheer fun.
