I have a love/hate relationship with this book, "Hush, Hush". It was well written and suspenseful. Plus, I love Patch! He's very sensual, sexy and dark. And the climatic chapters at the end were the best part in my opinion, making it worth the read.

The main protagonist, Nora, to me though was very paranoid and definitely has "trust issues". Originally this is understandable, after her father's murder and some of the suspensions are well-founded, however it gets very old very fast! Pretty much everyone to her is suspcious and she tries her best to discreetly investigate several of them (which she fails miserably in playing it cool to those she interviews).
The supposedly protective parenting skills here also bothered me (and I'm only 25y.o. with no kids). Her mother, who is so protective, just leaves her 16 y.o. only daughter alone in some old, fog-hidden farmhouse, a mile from the closest neighbor, for weeks at time - barely a year after her husband's murder! Not to mention the parents of Vee (Nora's crass, witless best friend) let her go off for dinner with no adult, just a day after she gets out of the hospital following a brutal mugging. Ooookay...
Like I said - a Love / Hate relationship! It was a good read - suspenseful and well written. Patch and the final 'battle' make it worth the read. However, Nora's constant paranoia (which ultimately interupts any romantic scenes) and airhead Vee quickly became beyond annoying.
Overall, it's pretty good for a first book for Mrs. Fitzpatrick. I'll be willing to read the sequel, Crescendo when it comes out in Oct 2010.
