Decent, but not among his best. Far too many characters- many of whom were not really developed enough. (The Stand had far more characters, but I don't remember having to flip over to a cheatsheet to remember who someone was) And this will be an odd complaint about an 1100 page book- the plot felt a bit rushed- I found it implausible that the Lord of the Flies-esq devolution of the townsfolk...more

Pretty good so far less than 150pgs left...i must it gets frustrating at some points and you go "OH MY GOD - really can they be this stupid where is common sense!!" but stephen kings depicts perfectly the supidity that rises up in our species when we forget our common sense & our humanity when over ran with fear.

This book was very similar to The Stand. So if you liked that book, you'll like this as well. I was a bit long, I think it could have ended about 100 pages earlier. But I solid Stephen King book.

This is a really long book, and slow paced at the beginning. Briefly, the book is about power politics in a small town when it suddenly finds itself encased in an alien force field. As the power politics is played out, long time illicit activities are disclosed, murders take place, and the beast in human nature emerges. Reminiscent of Lord of the Flies, but involving adults. Overall an ok read -...more

Definitely one of Stephen King's better (recently) books. I was really able to get into the characters such that I cared when (most of them) were killed off. While technically a horror novel, I loved this book for it's twists, turns and character development. Every time I thought that it couldn't get any worse...it did!

This book is classic Stephen King. It starts out slow, describing every character in detail, then it's all uphill from there. This book is well over 600 pages and I read half of it without stopping. If you love stephen king you will love this story.

Great book! I took a 10 year break from Stephen King as I found his writing had become predictably similar. Interesting to note he started this book in the 70's. It was a nice welcome back to his writing - original concept, great character development and even at over 1000 pages it kept me hooked! :)

Not as great as everyone says it is. The ending left a bit to be desired if you ask me.

This is definately my favourite Stephen King novel, I have read it twice and have been cought up both. The characters are relatable, you could understand their actions and the way they think. The story line was of cours epic, I hope one day to see it as a movie.
