more I have been stabbing in the dark before this read. <b><i>Waking the Tiger<i><b> gave me a clear vision for my trauma work as a therapist.
Having read it, I not only have found out clearly where I am going, but I am more equipped to lead others to stay on nature's path towards wellbeing.
Peter Levine is so concrete and practical that I am left with a sense of awe! I highly recommend it. If you are a psychotherapist or struggling with trauma, it is a must!
If you need to find a therapist who understands the underpinnings of Levine's work, look to a well trained Gestalt therapist.
The theory that he sets forth in the book goes hand in glove with good Gestalt theory and praxis. Levine simply uses different words to describe the same phenomena. Gestalt therapists have everything that is needed at their fingertips to give you support and have done so for decades.
If you are a Gestalt therapist, you will, none the less, find this book enlightening as I have.
I imagine that it would have been difficult for me to have set myself into the work as projected by Levine without having had good body work by an experienced therapist. I could never have “read myself” to the understanding of this type of work.
Trauma work is body work. Body work is holistic and is not think work alone.
Even though I have much to go on with my Gestalt background, "Natures own remedy," as described so proficiently by Levine, is the clearest vision of trauma work I have ever read. My work has dramatically changed because of it.
I was easily drawn off "the path" when giving therapy. I wasn’t clear where nature was leading us. Now, having a crystal clear vision gives me courage to support my client to stay with the natural process.
My experience after trying out my new vision has been an immediate success. The first client after my read, worked through two traumas within our first hour. These traumas have burdened her for 45 years. Now, they no longer have any energy and she feels empowered. I am inspired!
I am in debt to Peter Levine’s keen awareness! Now, that I see I no longer need to stab in the dark! With the right support, Nature does the job of - <b><i>Waking the Tiger!<i><b>
