Fever Pitch

A tough read for those of us that didn't grow up following English soccer in the 70's and 80's. You get the obsessive part, but the names/players are meaningless.

I was so disappointed here. I love Hornby's other books, but this was just an endless pointless litany about fandom with no real insight to the emotional impact, no dialouge, nothing endearing. It took me longer to read this book than any other because I fell asleep every third page. I simply didn't care, and that's a shock with Hornby.

Very funny book. If you are a sports fanatic of any sport or country you can relate. Good writing and good read. As an American I may not appreciate the back stories on the rivalry's that exist in English Football ... but I appreciate the sport as a soccer player and coach, and as a huge fan of both soccer and other sports. Very funny book. If you are a sports fanatic of any sport or country you can relate. Good writing and good read. As an American I may not appreciate the back stories on the rivalry's that exist in English Football ... but I appreciate the sport as a soccer player and coach, and as a huge fan of both soccer and other sports. Very funny! It is of course about real football not that American game of Football but the ones American's call soccer. But if you are truly a fanatic of any sport you will appreciate this. Nick Hornby is an excellent writer.   hide

I'm a Gunners fan too, but this didn't cut it. Generation gap and all.

Thank goodness I didn't buy this book! It was a hard slog to get to the end since I know very little about soccer!

First, no - this isn't the spin-off-made-into-a-chick-flick-with-a-Red Sox-wrapper book - it's about English soccer. Second, solid book that has me saying "football" now instead of "soccer." Okay . . . good view of soccer, and EPL, but not really much of a story

This is simply a fantastic book for any person who professes to love football! Humorous, real and downright enjoyable! A classic
