I read this book in my 2nd year year of university and immediately loved it. It's an "autobiography" but stretches the truth quite liberally, which makes it all the more fascinating. There's a wonderful breezy tone to the recollections, with plenty of wit and humour.

I read this just prior to moving to Geneva in my late twenties. If anything turned my heart towards high expectations and away from fears and concerns - this was the book. It gave me the romance of a: country, city, quartier, culture, people, food, drink, bohemian rhapsody and right bank (what is the opposite of indulgence? !!) I visited Paris during that time away and returned many times...more
