I read this just prior to moving to Geneva in my late twenties. If anything turned my heart towards high expectations and away from fears and concerns - this was the book. It gave me the romance of a: country, city, quartier, culture, people, food, drink, bohemian rhapsody and right bank (what is the opposite of indulgence? !!)
I visited Paris during that time away and returned many times...

I visited Paris during that time away and returned many times after. The Memoirs of Montparnasse left me with phrases to turn over in my thoughts, France gave me those memories in a way that only this book could have set me up for.
I would highly recommend it for any young person going for the first time, or for any seasoned traveler wanting to remember what they might have forgotten...
