uggh..only got through it as it was for my first book club meeting. I really did not like ANY of the characters.

I love this book and the main character, an irascible old man living through an interesting era in the wonderful environment of Guernsey. I think it is better to read the book first and then return to the lengthy John Fowles introduction afterwards.
