One of my favorite books of all time.  Read it in Junior Highschool, and it taught more than anyone could have about our human ways...touches on everything we deal with today, yet in a fictional world that could potentially become our world, if we don't learn our lessons....very powerful book

I'm a big sci-fi nut and this one is very smart but not too cerebral. John Wyndham is better known for "Day of the Triffids" and "The Midwich Cuckoos" aka "Children of the Damned". Really good read!

turns out the story setting was in Canada, i'd never been to canada when i read this book but John Wyndham did a good job in telling this story,im in canada now and i have a great appreciation for the story told.

This book is awesome. =D Really, really awesome. I don't want to give too much away, but it is about a boy in an old-fashioned parallel world where religion is the entire drive of society, and anyone with the slightest "deviation" from the norm (ie. a sixth toe) is banished. I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't okay with your religion being questioned though.
