more Someone told me I should stop reading such depressing books. It's true I do seek out books or memoirs on family's struggling with a loved one's illness. This is a very well written book by a father of teenage daughter who suffers a breakdown from manic depression. Very touching portrayal with literary reference to James Joyce's daughter Nora. Michael Greenberg is a very caring father who is very observant when visiting his daughter during her "hospitalization." His details of the rules of the hospital and the visitors is very personal. The observations are never depressing but always interesting. You learn a lot about the family and the dynamics, including the author's brother who has a mental illness, the mother. One powerful scene is a dinner between the author and his mother who discuss how the mental ill brother or son was different from the beginning. The author does not escape notice since the reader sees the world from his eyes. One of the best books I have ever read.
