Late Friday night I finished reading “House” by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. This is the first time these two Christian authors have collaborated - and I must say that they can do it again as far as I’m concerned! I have yet to read any Dekker novel, but I have read each Peretti book. The book isn’t quite the caliber that I was expecting, though it did keep my interest and I read it through in about 3-hours. The last page of the book promises the movie adaptation coming in 2007. I hope it’s better than The Visitation’s movie adaptation. After reading this book I am a bit curious about other Dekker novels. I noticed we have a few others in the church library, so I’ll start there.   hide

I happen to be a fan of both Dekker and Peretti, so to have both twisted minds compiled together between two hardcovers is absolutely amazing to me. Such a quick read.. I finished this in about 5 hours. If you have read anything by either of the two co-authors, you won't be let down by this one, trust me. At first glance it seems to be about some haunted house.. typical horror book, right? Wrong....more

At first glance it seems to be about some haunted house.. typical horror book, right? Wrong. You'll soon be trapped yourself in this supernatural, demonic residence. Sure, it includes some typical haunted house qualities, but they're thrown at you with more force.. the kind of force that only these two amazing authors can give. I recommend this for anyone interested in supernatural thrillers, horror stories, christian writing, and extreme surprise endings. Oh.. and this "haunted house" is NOT a typical Japanese haunted house, it's American.. but I won't tell you who comes out alive. But seriously, this book is AMAZING. You'll get hooked within pages and it will leave you itching for more. But don't worry.. there is a movie coming out about it this fall. (I'm SO EXCITED!!)   hide

You know what that means...it's a every man for himself brawl through a house that seems to have a mind of its own. Let the games begin. Best not read after dark, or in a house alone.    hide

Did you all really like this book as much as much as you say? I thought it lacked any character development and moved so quickly it was hard to understand exactly what was happening. If Stephen King wrote this book it would have been around 900 pages.The reader is thrown into a series of events without any footing or background. If Stephen King wrote this book it would have been around 900 pages.The reader is thrown into a series of events without any footing or background. For example, there was no back story to Jack and Stephanie's marriage and the reader knows absolutely nothing about Randy and Leslie except their occupations. And what's the deal with Melissa? Do we ever get told how she died or the impact it had on the relationship between Jack and Stephanie? Also the "surprise" ending was such and obvious metaphor to Christ that I actually started laughing when I read the line "Son of Man." I guess I'll go back to Mr. King and see what he has to offer.   hide
