The saga of the First and only continues, this time exploring the 'surivor' mentality of those who returned from the mission behind enemy lines, and how they react with the rest of the unit. Just when you think, how many Ghosts are they left, an infusion is done to boost thier numbers.Once again, Abnett spares no one, as one of the recurring characters falls to chaos bullet.

I don't know why, but although this was the first Gaunt's Ghosts book I'd read in a while, I wasn't terribly impressed.Abnett's prose is strong as always, but I think he's kind of used up all his good ideas for this particular setting. Some good fight scenes, a couple of good confrontations, but nothing spectacular.

So this is what its come to? They're aren't even enough Tanith (and Vergasht) left to form a full regiment? How sad. Please Dan Abnett stop this cruelty! Let the Tanith settle on a nice planet somewhere before there's none left! They're too cool to go extinct!

Not as good as the start of this the lost series. While Traitor General had wonderful stealth operations and tribulations, His Last Command has a great battle but misses some closure.
