I read this because I was lucky enough to meet Dan Abnett (along with Sandy Mitchell and John Lambshead) when they came to a book signing at the shop where I work. I'd never read anything else by the Black Library (or to be honest been interested in doing so) but I really was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this! Despite the central characters being genetically enhanced humans they seemed totally real even when in the midst of battles against megarachnids. I must admit it did take me a while to get into the book (though that may have been simply because the entire Warhammer universe is new to me) but I'm very glad I kept reading. I would definitely recommend this to anyone already a fan of the genre and as a good place to start for any other newbies like me!   hide
