Only in Death (Warhammer 40, 000)

This book surprised me. I was convinced I knew how it would end, I was wrong. My only complaint about the Gaunt's Ghosts series is that as it's progressed the innate skill of the Tanith to never get lost seems to have been forgotten about. Many times in the recent books there have been moments where that would have counted but it appeared not to.

Long time fans will be rewarded with the reapperence of many characters and a big "loose thread" is tied off in the finale. Overall a good albiet depressing read.   hide

AMAZING

Abnett, like Gaiman, honed a special kind of story telling in the sequential art medium before jumping to novels. His cinematic style and ability to make you care about characters is top notch, overshadowed only by his recognition that in a series of novels about brutal war, you have to kill characters you've made people care about. He improves with every outing, and he was brilliant at the start.
