Excelent book. If a little overwhealming with deatail.

Outstanding naming of modern Genocide by a former Israeli professor of History from Tel Aviv. Finally fled to the UK when blacklisted and harassed for his soothsaying. Great lecture in Vancouver BC last year at the Public Library.

The book offers a quite specific account on the "Nakba" from the perspective of village expulsions. This is written solely from the Palestinian narrative and demonizes Zionists all the time. As someone said, good history pleases nobody and this is why this fails miserably with its own scientific pretentions. It's biggest flaw is the failure to explain the war as it is impossible to buy that six arab countries invaded the new-born State of Israel just to "save palestinians."   hide

This is an extremely important and powerful book. That a book that is so critical of Israel could come from the pen of a Jewish man from Tel Aviv gives the lie to the suggestion that criticism of Israel is inherently anti-Semitic. This is the path to reconciliation. If Pappe is listened to, then we might find a genuine basis for lasting peace and justice in the Middle East.
