Carnet De Voyage

Man, I love Craig Thompson's work. Something about the immediacy of the artwork and the utterly open and personal storylines. This graphic travel narrative (like all travel narratives, more about the self than the foreign landscape) is the most beautiful and moving I've read. Highly recommended.

Thompson has a way of making his drawing more than illustrations for the developing storyline. Really enjoyed this. First time I actually read any of his stuff. I picked it up because I'm trying to do more journal writing/drawing combination's and this is exactly what this was. It'd be neat to see a good journal done by an artist without a set time-line(a trip to Europe). But his artistic style was very elegant and his humor was familiarly comic artist; Which means self deprecating, observant, and as a passive observer.
