Set in the late 80's early 90's, its a gritty look at Japanese police procedures and culture at the time. Unfortunately, it seems a bit pedestrian in comparison to American crime Fiction. The translated works are expected to start hitting US shores rapidly and many say that the 3rd book and on are when the series really hits its stride.
