I am a fan of Bill Simmons' Sports Guy column on ESPN.com's Page 2. He writes from the viewpoint of the fan, but with more credibility. He mixes emotion, thoughtfulness, humor, and pop-culture references to give a refreshing take on sports. If you've never read him, check him out sometime.

The book is a collection of his columns documenting the Red Sox run from the late 90s through, with the inclusion of updates, 2008. I enjoyed it and found myself laughing out loud, as well as further appreciating his style. Living in Cleveland, it was interesting to see another take from a sports fan of a different team that always found a way to lose.
The book, however, with the updates, is a bit too long. His articles get to be long-winded and sometimes are ridiculous in historical perspective (which he admits to in the book) making their length even more exhausting. (An article where he compares Larry Bird to David Ortiz!) The original writing would have been best. (Something else he admits)
Good read for a sports fan, whether or not you like the Red Sox. (I don't) Much better than the hokey docs that came out after they won the World Series.
