The first of Dennis Lehane's novels that I read, and the one which gave me the Lehane bug.  I followed this fantastic novel with Lehane's entire back catalog.

Superb book and the movie adaptation was of the same caliber, thanks to Clint Eastwood's brilliant direction.  One of the unusual instances where I recommend both versions.
