Neal Stephenson is an absolute genius.  Who else could come up with a character like Half-cocked Jack (don't call me a vagabond) Shaftoe?  I am in love with Eliza!

I love history & I love historical novels. The Baroque Cycle is simply the FINEST of the historical novel genre. The sheer volume of historically accurate material seamlessly woven into the fictional storyline is unbelievable. In addition, is is loaded with philosophy, mathematics and science dating from the period of the novels (17th & 18th centuries). The masterful storyline and...more
 I love history & I love historical novels. The Baroque Cycle is simply the FINEST of the historical novel genre. Okay, this is where Stephenson's Baroque Cycle gets good.  Its part swashbuckling-adventure on the high seas, part political intrigue in the royal courts of 19th century Europe, and all witty historical fiction.  Can't wait to read the next one.
