I simply couldn't keep the book down once I started reading it. I was amazed the way the story moved. War, love, trust, friendship, loss, grievance every human emotion marvelously knitted together to form a heart wrenching story. I loved the book. Made me cry. Made me laugh. Made me feel the war. Made me feel the pain. Simply Superb!!

Absolutely brilliant! A heart-breaking, packed with emotions and sympathies, perhaps one of the saddest novels that I’ve recently read. This is truly an amazing story of struggle, hardship and survival of Afghani women, in particular two of the main characters. One of them becomes a symbol and an inspiration of that fight, while the other one becomes a messenger for the generations to come.

A very moving and heartbreaking story. I would reccomend this to all women. We so often take for granted the rights we have in this great nation. We are blessed to have such freedoms...and we are so lucky to have never really known war on our soil. Warning..will make you question many things.

I read this book in 1 day. It's my first Khaled Hosseini book and it won't be my last. The lives of Miriam and Laila, 2 young Afghani women, entertwined by loss, death, lies, truly touched my heart. As a daughter, mother, wife and woman, I was able to relate to these young and brave women. I shall keep this book so my daughters can someday read it. I read this book in 1 day. It gripped me...more

never thought he'd write a book better than Kite Runner . . . you be the judge, but I think he just may have. I think this is a must read for every woman like myself, who hasn't a clue about life in Afghanistan for a woman.

I loved this story. Although it is hard to understand the culture so different from our own, the characters are endearing.

This is perhaps one of the most heartbreaking books I've ever read. We hear about the treatment of Afghan women on tv but this book really brought it to life for me. I cried so hard sometimes that I was almost weeping. I highly recommend this book. It made me thankful for the life and family that I have and that we live in a country that isn't battled constantly by decades of war.
