It's obviously well written -the story is great -but it inspires a lot of heavy emotions in me for reasons I've yet to understand.Could it come from wanting to be the catcher -and seeing the futility of it? Could it be that Holden is kind of the prototypical teenager: Hates fakes but is one himself? -Or maybe it's because the book leaves you with a sense of futility: That's the way it is/the way it will always be: no happy endings, just a dissatisfying realization that that's the way the world works. ??? I really don't know -it could be none of the above.
