well he can't. And he is only famous because he happened to tap into an anti-authoritarian stream of thought that has taken off in the Western World recently. If not for that, he wouldn't sell a single book, as is quite plain from the fact that he didn't sell any books before Da Vinci.
His evidence in that book is terrible, non-sensical tripe, but it is the complete lack of proper style which is offensive. I mean, Dawkins thinks much stupider things, but still manages to be engaging.

Amen to that! I've had so many people rave to me about his books, and I find it simply befuddling. Also, toffee is delicious!

Although im not a big fan of him either, i just wanted to point out what many people, including yourself fail to see:
The Da Vinci Code is fiction, and was intented as fiction.

making sweeping generalizations of this kind can't possibly help anyone, and it doesn't make you look any more intelligent. I'm sure you haven't read every piece of historical fiction in existence. but i hate Dan Brown too.

yea, my friend had to force her way through the Da Vinci Code because her friend promised to read another book if she read this one... she abhors his writing style! (and sadly, her friend didn't read the other book)
my other friend says of the Da Vinci Code and people taking it seriously - it's like The War of the Worlds radio programme, it's those who took it for real who were idiots, don't blame the author..
but I do blame this author for insulting the sensibilities of Catholics, it's just low.

Agreed! I couldn't make it 20 pages into the bad writing.

My problem is that if you read Angels and Deamons or the Da Vinci Code the build up is exactly the same. i had read one on the plane and when i started the other one I knew who was going to be the bad guy just because I read the other book
