Send a copy of your bath-time thoughts to Oprah and it will become a best seller... they might even make you President! I would prefer to see Johnny Depp in the White House for using words more freely... and as a damn pretty descendant of North American indian stock he makes an even prettier movie (The Brave) about what it feels like to be disadvantaged!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, some upstart called Obama who has shone in the eyes of philosophical Democrat party people writes, "It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope!"

Wish I'd thought of that, although the hope is invariably replaced by the hupe. In the UK there are no more millworkers or innocent young naval lieutenants. I shall from now on leave my North American brothers and sisters to write the reviews on this page. I will get my coat and leave!
