This is really funny. I rate my favorites in exactly the same order. Haven't read Northanger Abbey yet, and Pursuasion is my least favorite thus far.

I have only read P n' P and persuasion and enjoyed both! In what ways is Emma better? I may give it a look.

1. S&S
2. P&P
3. Emma
4. Persuasion

But really S&S and P&P are tied, I just put S&S on top because my daughter's middle name came from that book (Elinor).

this is tough!! i love all her works but these are my favorites

1. pride and prejudice (i have to put this one first just because!)
2. persuasion
3. sense and sensibility
4. emma

(i would have to say that s&s ties with persuasion, so mansfield park would really be my fourth)

Emma is really extraordinary, sparkling but also intense, because she is cleaver, romantic, sophisticated and ironic, among people who love her and worship her...and so the novel is the light side of Mansfield Park, in which we have a poor, shy and insicure lady among rich and cruel people who don't care of her..Mansfield Park is pretty cool too, but I didn't enjoy the end at all....

1) Sense & Sensibility
2) Pride & Prejudice
3) Northanger Abby (I adore Catherine and Henry Tilney!)
4) Emma
This is not to say I do not love Mansfield Park and Persuasion because I do; it was like, whichever one I was reading was my favorite. My top two are easy picks, though, and they are not tied at all: I definitely love S & S more than P & P, but please understand, that says a lot about S & S because I really love P & P. It's the other four I'd have a hard time putting in order!

I know what you mean about the end of Mansfield Park, it wasn't very exciting, but Fanny Price wasn't very exciting.

I think Persuasion is a bit slow, but again, Anne Elliot is not an exciting person, but the end of this was way better... that letter from Captain Wenworth steals my heart every time!

Emma is really different from Persuasion - Emma Woodhouse is no Anne Elliot, she's definitely more of the Elizabeth Bennet, but not quite so wild. Emma Woodhouse is more "properly" educated; she and her sister were their parents' only two children and they lost their mother at an early age so they only had their father who not only spoiled Emma and her sister (which wasn't in the realm of possibilites for Lizzy Bennet since she was one of five daughters and had both parents- which if you remember P&P well enough, her mother certainly wasn't spoiling anyone), but became very dependent on them. Emma is a very intriguing character, though, because even though she is spoiled, she still has a very strong sense of duty and responisibility- since she is educated and has the standing in the community that she does she tries to take care of those around her, either through charity or friendship. The book itself is quite clever like P & P and Emma is truly charming, I don't think you could help but fall in love with her because she really does try so hard.

Once you read it, watch the movie "Clueless" again, the one with Alicia Silverstone because even though it was stupid at the time, after familiarizing yourself with Emma it'll take on a whole new level of meaning and charm.
