A lovely, sad, funny book about an Irani family who had to move to England. It really gives a sense of both cultures. I also was a child during this time in history & this book gave me a better understanding of what really happened.

Fascinating! Buchan is definitely dated, but for someone into history, that may be a plus. Gives a good taste of Europe between the Wars. Great adventure!

Gaiman & Pratchett are two of my fave living authors. You'd think that I'd think this book is the epitome of all things good then. But somehow, it just doesn't seem to equal the sum of its (authors') parts. Don't get me wrong, it's still quite a good adventure. I just had higher expectations for the novel...

Wow! Powerful book! Written in several different voices, which helped give a bigger picture of what was happening in the deep South during the 1960s. Couldn't put the book down!!

Rollicking good adventure. Not particularly well-written (at least not the abridged version). Fascinating story though.

(Language: English)
Nice little non-fiction memoir about a couple's move to Umbria. If you like long descriptions of the little things, such as how to shop in an Italian village, it's an interesting read. The author truly is obsessed with food. This book will make you hungry - for Italian food & for Italy!

There's something for everyone in this book. Kingsolver has already proven herself as a great novelist - now she's written a more personal book - and done just as well. This book is one part informative, one part entertaining, one part inspiring, and one part challenging. The whole is a recipe for a fabulous read.

Quirky and fun. If you're a Douglas Adams fan, you must pick this one up. (Note: it is a sequel, although I really don't think they're that sequential.)

(Language: English)
Amazing. So well-written. It was a little hard to take at first, one character was so harsh, but it was worth getting through that part. Very unique in that each chapter tells the story in a different person's voice. You really get a personal & historical perspective on what happened in the the transition of the Congo. Kingsolver is one of the greats of our age.
